Turkey Yacht Charter Itinerary: Where Ancient Coast Meets Open Sea

Bodrum

Begin in Bodrum, built on the site of ancient Halicarnassus and home to the Mausoleum of Mausolus, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. Explore Bodrum Castle and its remarkable Underwater Museum of Archaeology before boarding. A short afternoon sail brings you to Aquarium Bay, calm, crystalline, and the perfect first anchorage, where the water runs so clear you can see the stones on the seabed from the deck.

Bodrum → Knidos, Palamutbuku & Datça

Sail southwest to Knidos, a well-preserved ancient city perched at the very tip of the Datça Peninsula and accessible almost exclusively by sea. Walk the ruins of the Temple of Aphrodite and the ancient Necropolis before dropping anchor for a swim. Nearby, Palamutbükü offers long quiet beaches and water so transparent you can see fish moving beneath your feet. The evening is spent in Datça, unhurried and genuinely local, with waterfront tavernas serving freshly caught fish alongside the region’s celebrated tomatoes and olives.

Knidos, Palamutbuku & Datça → Emel Sayin Bay, Orhaniye & Selimiye

A full day tracing the Gulf of Hisarönü. Begin with a morning swim in Emel Sayin Bay, named after the beloved Turkish singer and said to share the colour of her striking blue eyes, pine forests on all sides, aquamarine water below. From there, Orhaniye on the Bozburun Peninsula offers Kizkumu Beach, a narrow natural sandbar that appears to walk straight into the sea, alongside the historic Castle of the Black Knight. The evening settles in Selimiye, a fishing village that turns deep amber at sunset, with a Hellenistic castle above and freshly grilled seafood below.

Emel Sayin Bay, Orhaniye & Selimiye → Bozukkale (Loryma) & Serce Bay

A morning sail to Bozukkale, set in a heart-shaped bay watched over by a nine-towered castle dating back to prehistory. This was once the ancient harbour of Loryma, a strategic base for the Athenian navy between 395 and 305 BCE, chosen for its commanding views over the Aegean. Climb the ramparts for sweeping panoramic views, then swim off the back of the yacht before moving on to the quieter, wilder shores of Serce Bay for a peaceful afternoon at anchor.

Bozukkale (Loryma) & Serce Bay → Marmaris

Marmaris wraps around one of Turkey’s finest natural harbours, built on the ancient Carian city of Physkos. The 16th-century Marmaris Castle anchors the old quarter, where an Ottoman-era caravanserai and ancient ruins on Asar Hill reward those who wander beyond the marina. The covered bazaar is excellent, genuinely lively, with spices, textiles, and ceramics. The city has a nightlife if you want it, and perfectly good reasons to be back on board before midnight if you don’t.

Marmaris → Ekincik, Dalyan & Göcek Gulf

One of the most memorable days of the route. Anchor in the sheltered Bay of Ekincik before taking a traditional wooden river boat up the Dalyan Delta, past reed beds, mud banks, and the extraordinary Lycian rock tombs of Kaunos carved high into the clifftops above the river. The journey continues out to Iztuzu Beach, one of the Mediterranean’s most important nesting grounds for the Caretta caretta loggerhead turtle. Back on board, the yacht enters the island-scattered Göcek Gulf as the afternoon light softens.

Ekincik, Dalyan & Göcek Gulf → Göcek Gulf (Ağa Limanı, St Nicholas Island, Tersane Island)

A day for unhurried island-hopping through one of Turkey’s most beautiful gulfs. Swim off the sandy shores of Ağa Limanı in the morning, explore the Byzantine ruins on Tersane Island before lunch, and drift past the crescent beach at St Nicholas Island in the afternoon. Whether you spend the day swimming, visiting archaeological sites, or simply drifting between pine-fringed anchorages, the choice is yours and your captain’s.

Göcek Gulf (Ağa Limanı, St Nicholas Island, Tersane Island) → Göcek

The cruise ends in Göcek, a quietly exceptional yachting village surrounded by pine-covered hills and one of the most sheltered marinas on the Turkish coast. Its seafront is lined with luxury yachts year-round, and the waterfront restaurants make for a fine final breakfast before disembarkation. Dalaman International Airport is just 20 minutes away.
