The History of Benetti Yachts
Founded by Lorenzo Benetti in 1873 in Italy, Benetti Yachts is now one of the world’s most well-known and oldest shipyards. The Italian shipyard began with a focus on building commercial sailing boats and navy ships until the 1950s before dividing the business between commercial and leisure vessels.
The yacht charter business, spearheaded by great-grandson Lorenzo, skyrocketed to success in the 1960s when Fratelli Benetti designed and constructed yachts in steel with wood-panelled luxury interiors known as the Delfino model. In the late 1960s, Benetti Yachts then launched its first luxury Superyacht, and since 1980 have produced hundreds of superyachts between 30m-100m.
With various other yacht-building facilities now running in Viareggio, Fano and Livorno, Benetti has also undergone a merger with Azimut forming the Azimut-Benetti Yachts group. The Azimut-Benetti group is the largest luxury Italian superyachts manufacturer in the world. As a result of this acquisition, Benetti is now a world leader in the total length and units of yachts over 37 metres in its order book at any given time.
