May is the month to see and to be seen on the Côte d’Azur, with two of the region’s most iconic events taking place – the Monaco Grand Prix 2016 and the Cannes Film Festival 2016. There’s no more luxurious, stylish and sophisticated way to enjoy both than with front row seats aboard a crewed yacht charter.
For ten days this year, from 11th to 22nd May, the 69th annual Cannes Film Festival will transform the Palais des Festivals into the epicentre of the world’s movie industry. Just steps from the Old Port of Cannes, and often stealing the show, will be a host of spectacular superyachts, moored along the Jetee Edouard Albert.
Then, just a week later from 26th to 29th May, hundreds of thousands flood the streets of Monte Carlo for the Monaco Grand Prix, the most spectacular event in the world’s motor racing calendar. With trackside seats such a rare commodity, the opportunity to view the action from the comfort of a luxury superyacht is the best way to witness the action. Witnessing the blend of roaring noise and smoking rubber from the deck of a superyacht must be experienced to be believed.
Where better to call home than a touch of timeless elegance and classic lines onboard the 82.6m M/Y TALITHA. Although designed in 1927 by naval architects Cox and Stevens for Russell Alger, Chairman of the Packard Car Company, she was completely rebuilt in 1993, retaining the original open fireplaces and inlaid marquetry. Her 17 crew now caters to 12 guests who enjoy a state-of-the-art entertainment system and watch the world from a Jacuzzi on the top deck.
For a more grandiose, elegant feel, the 68m motoryacht SYCARA V makes a statement with her sleek lines and light, fresh interior designed by Australian Craig Beal. Her sun deck, with air-conditioned gym, private massage room and shower/steam room, is reached by elevator from her 7 en-suite staterooms. That’s if you could bring yourself to bypass the main salon with TV/surround sound, Yamaha Clavinova player piano and wet bar.
For these two events, attended by the world’s social elite, a superyacht is much more than a place to sleep: charterers enjoy the best location from which to enjoy the action, with prime positioning in the heart of Cannes and Monaco. Moreover, guests can revel in merriment and dance until the hours in luxury and elegance, as celebrations continue well on into the night.
The ports of both Monaco and Cannes are minutes by helicopter from Nice’s Côte d’Azur International Aéroport or Cannes Mandelieu airport.
