Sorrento: the scent and taste of the Amalfi Coast

Sorrento is one of the most treasured locations of the Amalfi Coast and a well-known destination of yachters. The town inspired the evocative song “Caruso” by Lucio Dalla, the Italian beloved singer who loved its shimmer sea and wind-swept landscape. Sorrento is a diamond set in the Gulf of Naples and, like every token of love, it is forever.

Thanks to its favorable position, blue sea, welcoming atmosphere and good food typical of the South of Italy, Sorrento is a tourist magnet. The visitors that crowd the web of its small alleys revel in the sensorial excitement of experiencing the colors, tastes, and smells of this small coastal town. Make sure that your eno-gastronomical tour includes a drink of limoncello, a bite of “delizia al limone” shortcake, and a generous portion of typical “gnocchi alla sorrentina.” Complete your excursion shopping for local products to recreate a delicious Neapolitan dinner on your boat.

Find time to visit the city gardens located in the heart of the town to enjoy one of the most beautiful views of the world. On sunny days you can see as far as Capri, another must-visit if you are touring the Gulf. Well-connected with Naples and the main locations of the Amalfi Coast, Sorrento isn’t simply a town to visit, it is also a point of departure to explore the Sorrentine Peninsula.

The land of the sirens boasts some of the most beautiful beaches in the area: Bagni della Regina Giovanna (Queen Joan’s Baths), Solara, and Marina Grande, which is practically in town. Bagni della Regina is a secluded spot encircled by cliffs, accessible via a small path that is a ten-minute walk from Sorrento. Close by, the flat cliffs of Solara beach stretch under the sun, for a full day of sunbathing.

More beautiful beaches are in Piano and Meta di Sorrento. The longest beach of the Sorrentine Peninsula is a few kilometers from Sorrento: this strip of sand and pebbles is divided in Meta Lido and Marina di Alimuri.  In Piano di Sorrento are Marina di Cassano and Caterina Beach. Laying under a tuff ridge, these locations are not far from Cassano’s recently-built harbor, where you can stop for a meal of local products.

Sorrento is easy to reach even on a small private boat, like a yacht charter and mooring is not a problem at one of the fully-equipped yacht harbors along the Peninsula. They can be found in Marina Piccola, Marina Grande, Massa Lubrense, Sant’Agnello, Meta, Vico Equense.
