Guadeloupe: The heart of the French Caribbean
The butterfly-shaped Guadeloupe is the most exotic island of the Antilles.
Jacques Cousteau called Guadeloupe a diving mecca. Take in the wild beauty of this island on a motor or sailing boat charter. Its long sandy beaches sheltered by a vast rainforest are a wonderful, wonderful sight.
Natural attractions make Guadeloupe one of the world’s finest cruising destinations. The island boasts trekking and hiking paths in the wilderness, the Grande Soufrière volcano, and a long reef, as well as several islets and outcrops that call for hours of adventurous exploration. Sailing out and discovering them will be simply wonderful.
The island’s western wing has several dive sites, including the wreckage of “l’Augustin”, off the coast of the fishing village of Anse Duché. Bars line the beaches, affording hours of absolute relax.
Tourists usually stick to the two main islands of BasseTerre and GrandeTerre, where they can kayak across mangrove swamps. If you love rhum, head to the Musée du Rhum for some tasting and to learn about how the Caribbean’s signature product is realized.
Guadeloupe is a must-see of any vacation to the Caribbean on a yacht charter. Either on a motor, or a sailing boat you will fall under the spell of its exotic atmosphere and azure waters.
